Book excerpt: Art - A Moment of Bliss Art reflects life. Louisa Yee has journeyed east and west, and her brush has been weaving the two cultures together. Today, her art is at a place where "less is more." In this book you will see nature captured without pretense. The images are drawn with few brush strokes to suggest their forms. There is no fomality, but just a natural simplicity. Each line is essential and nothing is lacking. Some objects are painted with a very wet brush and without great concern for outline. Sometimes bold stroke and intense ink are used to partially outline a form or to suggest its texture. In some paintings, you will see a heavy brush stroke, being lifted almost away from the paper, leaving only the edges to give character to the objects. Birds and insects are quite animated and executed spontaneously with a minimum of brushwork, branches are drawn as if they had feelings, and the expressiveness of her strokes, the fluidity and grace of the movement of the brush heightens the sensation.
