Book excerpt: The Lutheran congregation was begun about 1807 and a union church (St. Henry's) was built 1811-1814. In 1880 the Lutherans left and formed St. Luke's one mile west of St. Henry's. Later in 1880 the conservative Lutherans formed St. James Evangelical Lutheran. In 1945 both Lutheran congregations merged into Messiah Lutheran.
