Book excerpt: For youth aging-out of foster care, independent living services may serve as a useful tool in preparing them for future social, physical, and economic success. The current study aims to understand which independent living services provided to youth in foster care are associated with their educational and employment outcomes at age 19. Using the National Youth in Transition Database (NYTD), this study will attempt to understand how both the specific type of service, as well as the number of services youths receive, act as predictors of educational attainment and employment. This information would be helpful in identifying how independent living services are impacting the future success of foster youth in regard to academics and employment.
