Book excerpt: The purpose of this thesis is to analyze and review the current literature on the barriers Latina women encounter when they access Domestic Violence services. Cultural influences, religion, immigration status, and mental health will be reviewed to determine how these barriers influence a Latina women's decision in help seeking behaviors. This information helps us understand the particularly difficult situation of Latina women involved in an abusive relationship. A second literature review evaluating the current programs available to Latina women victims of domestic violence was conducted to provide information about the positive and negative outcomes of each program. This information can be used to and better to improve better outcome provision when working with Latina women.
