The patient who had the appendectomy had been receiving 8 units of protamine insulin before the operation. Afterwards, no insulin was needed while the patient was in the hos pital on a lower caloric diet. The day after the child returned to the camp on a full diet, the fasting blood sugar was 270 mg., but without any insulin this was down to 150 mg. By pm. The blood sugar remained within normal limits and no insulin was needed up until the time of discharge, which was 2 weeks after the operation. All the other patients were dis charged on an increased dosage from that ad ministered when first at camp.
