Book excerpt: The 250 year period of Renaissance and Baroque printmaking in Europe was as varied and innovative as those of its sister arts of painting and sculpture. From the mid-15th century through the 17th century Europe burgeoned with artistic activity. This diversity is well-represented in these collections of woodcuts, engravings, etchings, and drypoint etchings by 65 artists working north and south of the Alps, from Germany to Italy.
