On March 8 1862 it left for Pittsburg landing, where it was assigned to the 1st brigade, 1st division, Gen. McClernand commanding. It fought with the Army of Tennessee beginning with Shiloh where it lost 24 killed and 139 wounded. It participated all the major battles, ending with Bentonville, NC in 1865.The 13th lost during service 5 Officers and 114 Enlisted men killed and mortally wounded and 4 Officers and 205 Enlisted men by disease. Total 328.-Company A - Linn County-Company B - Jasper County-Company C - Lucas County-Company D - Keokuk County-Company E - Scott County, Story County, Polk County and Jasper County-Company F - Linn County-Company G - Benton County-Company H - Marshall County; also many men from Monroe County-Company I - Washington County, Powesheik County and Iowa County-Company K - Washington County
