Book excerpt: The formation of the multipole operators from the fundamental charge, current, and moment operators of electron-nucleus scattering is carried through as an angular momentum recoupling problem rather than the usual vector algebra derivation. This point of view allows the electric and magnetic transition operators to be obtained in a simple and intuitive manner. The single particle reduced matrix elements of the charge, current, and moment operators are then calculated in the j-j coupling scheme using a flow chart technique developed by Danos.
