Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report is based on a review of selected literature items, discussions with marine technologists, and information derived from Battelle's own research programs in the marine corrosion field. The majority of the data were obtained from actual ocean exposures since they provide the most reliable information, but data from exposures in aqueous 3.5% NaCl and in simulated seawater are included where the former data are limited. Similarly, the focus of this report is on actual exposure data, but results fo electrochemical studies are presented selectively where they aid in the understanding or interpretation of the phenomena. This report is organized according to alloy type (i.e., carbon and low-alloy steels, stainless steels, etc.), exposure phase (atmosphere, splash and tide, submerged, and mud), failure mode, and parametric effects. Because of the extensive nature of the subject, information on coatings for marine applications, materials for deaslination, and corrosion fatigue have been excluded.
