Book excerpt: A collection of documents supporting the Peruvian side of the border dispute with Bolivia, for the most part previously unpublished. The work presents the history of the colonization of the disputed lands, based on original historical documents, and was intended to accompany the "Exposición de la República del Perú presentada Excmo. Gobierno Argentino en el juicio de limites con la República de Bolivia" (Barcelona and Madrid, 1906). Both texts and maps were prepared under the guidance of the Peruvian diplomat Víctor Manuel Maúrtua. He was appointed minister plenipotentiary in 1904 to defend the Peruvian claim in the border dispute with Bolivia, for which purpose he made an extraordinary documentary research, in collaboration with specialists Luis Ulloa, Victor Andres Belaunde, and Carlos A. Romero.
