Book excerpt: A Scalpel's edge is a dark novella that follows a chief surgeon whose skill is unparalleled. He can perform the most complex procedures with minimal effort. The thrill of the operating room used to be the reason he went to work, now his life has become a boring routine where he can perform the operations almost robotically with little challenge, coupled with a stagnant marriage he finds himself drifting through life. One day during a routine operation something happens that has never happened before - he makes a mistake. He must think on his feet to save the patients life. He feels alive for the first time in a long time, the adrenaline flows through his veins and he feels challenged. After the operation he returns to the monotony of his life but soon finds himself craving that feeling once more, that thrill, that fix. He starts on a dark path that leads to him sabotaging operations deliberately for the thrill, playing Russian roulette with his patient's lives for his own pleasures.
