Book excerpt: This study examined the influence of different types of information about innocent people and racial bias and how that information influences attitudes toward the death penalty and a death penalty moratorium. In this study, the information types focused on racial bias in sentencing and DNA evidence proving innocence. Based on the Marshall Hypothesis which states that fully informed individuals would not support the death penalty, findings revealed that some types of information had more influence in changing attitudes than others. The purpose was to show how grassroots organizations may be able to gain more support for their causes by offering their constituents particular types of information.
