Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The helical instability of a finite amplitude is investigated for the solid state electron-hole plasma. The conditions which govern the behavior of a diffusion limited solid state plasma are ascertained for impact ionization and injection plasmas. The density radial distribution of the solid state plasma column is calculated in the absence of the helical instability. A finite amplitude helix is superimposed on the steady state plasma distribution and the conditions for marginal stability determined. The parameters describing the helical instability are calculated as a function of the amplitude of the superimposed helix. These results are combined with the energy balance theory for the solid state electron-hole plasma to obtain results which may be directly applied to experimental observations. (Author).
