Book excerpt: "On October 25, 2000 a team of five consultants began a three-day visit to International falls to study the potential of reusing the Alexander Baker and E.W. Backus school complex. The team members inspected the two school buildings, toured the community and surrounding region, held a public meeting, and participated in over 20 confidential interviews with a variety of citizens; school district representatives; city, county and state government officials; social service providers; real estate agents; business owners; and representatives of organizations that have an interest in the school buildings. The Team also interviewed individuals who could provide additional expertise for the reuse analysis, or who were seen as potential tenants. In addition to the on-site meetings, a series of phone interviews were held to secure more information on the economic conditions in the community of International Falls. This report, its analysis, and recommendations are the products of that study, which was completed in the Fall of 2000."--Page 1.
