Book excerpt: The Teen Wise Workbook was created and designed exclusively to be used in conjunction with the Teen Wise book from the same author. Its purpose is to provide the preteen or teenager with an opportunity to explore the examples presented in the book and to adapt them to their own real-life experiences and/or expectations. Questions presented require thought-provoking answers that promote personal growth and self-empowerment by allowing the preteen or teenager a chance to explore and evaluate their own reactions and responses to the examples, recognize improvement possibilities, and seek help when needed. The preteen or teenager is asked to answer questions related to a specific topic in a given example by pondering just what he/she might do in that particular situation. He/she also has an opportunity to answer example questions with choices that he/she has already made. The overall goal is for the preteen or teenager to learn more about himself/herself and to guide him/her to seek solutions if challenges arise. Its emphasis is on self-evaluation and taking personal responsibility. The privacy of the preteen or teenager is respected by allowing him/her to keep his/her answers private and confidential. Sharing and disclosing information is his/her own personal choice.
