Book excerpt: The FAO/WorldFish Center workshop, held in Rome in September 2005, was organised as a first step in developing a collaborative project towards capacity-building for small-scale fisheries assessment in developing countries. The workshop focused on three main issues: developing a framework for interdisciplinary assessment; identification of appropriate approaches, methods and research needs; and reviewing an implementation strategy for a collaborative approach to capacity building.
