Their number was twelve. They labored, as they found opportunity, to convince the minds of others of the guilt and ignominy incurred by a nation of slave holders, and of the propriety of acknowledging the justice and necessity of immediate emancipation. They found for their encouragement, abundance of "abstract principles." They found also a strong opposition to acting in accordance with those principles.
