Book excerpt: These proceedings are a record of discussions at a meeting of a working group formed to provide scientific review of the Canadian inputs to the stock assessments of the International Commission for the Conservation of the Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT). The species of primary concern are bluefin tuna and swordfish. The meeting focussed on swordfish and reviewed two working papers, the first of which documents the development of a catch rate series for the Canadian longline fishery and compares the results with a previous approach. The second paper provides preliminary estimates of the dead discards of swordfish and bluefin tuna in the Canadian swordfish fishery.
