Book excerpt: Excerpt from Economic Impacts of an Intensified Timber Management Program This analysis shows that substantial benefits would accrue from an intensified softwood sawtimber management program described in the recent Forest Service study, The Outlook for Timber in the United States. It was estimated that in the year 2000 output of softwood timber products would be 7 percent higher and prices 5 percent lower with this program than they would be if the program was not under taken. Savings to consumers, which would result from program induced changes, were estimated to be $484 million in year 2000; net secondary benefits were estimated to be $472 million after allowing for the reduction in output of substitute materials. Substantial secondary benefits were estimated for other years in the study period. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
