Book excerpt: Summary: "The study will investigate the interdisciplinary connections between Environmental Studies and French and Francophone literature. The intersection between these disciplines represents a newer field of research in which literature helps show different ways that the environment is viewed and how it should be viewed.... My study will show European narratives of the conquest of natural places contrasted with post-colonial narratives which critique how colonization and industrialization harmed both people and the land where they lived. ... This research is important because literature influences the thoughts and beliefs of the populace, which influences modern day ideologies which create modern policies of how we should interact with the environment."-- Abstract.
