Book excerpt: This paper provides a quantitaive estimate of the contribution made by technological development to the natural rubber output inMalaysia, particularly in the estate sector. As far as the natural rubber industry is concerned, technological development has been able to slow down the rate at which the output is falling in the past. While resources in the industry are shifting away, naturally the prospect of the development of the sector has to rest on technological change or R & D if the industry is to remain vigour in the years ahead.
