Book excerpt: Excerpt from Catalogue of the Officers and Students of Boston College for the Academic Year 1877-78 To the former classical course, next September, at the earnest solicitation of the Most Reverend Archbishop, will be added a department in which the study of the ancient languages will be superseded by exclusive application to English, the modern lan guages, and the sciences. For entrance into the classical department, a knowledge of the fundamental principles of Grammar and Arithmetic will suffice;for entrance into the English department, a complete knowledge of those two branches will be exacted. The terms are thirty dollars per session of five months; besides the fee of ten dollars for the diploma, there will be no further ex pense for tuition. The first session begins on the first Monday of September; the second, on the first Monday of February; but students are not precluded from entering at other times.
