The letters discuss points of literary interest; many concern Steevens' collaboration with Malone and Reed in the editing of Shakespeare's plays. In a letter to Garrick [1771?], (2), Steevens mentions Garrick's current altering of Hamlet. In another to Malone, May 9, 1782, (24), he refers to a small, full-length picture of Shakspeare, a pretended original. In two letters to Percy, 1797, (41 and 43), he notes prices fetched by the old quartos of Shakspeare. Several letters refer to Chatterton and Goldsmith.
